The next key event occurred when David Hubbard, president of Fuller Theological Seminary, invited McGavran to become the founding dean of a third graduate school—the School of World Mission—in September 1965. McGavran accepted the invitation and emerged from semiretirement at age sixty-seven to begin a second career. The school opened with fifteen graduate students but grew over the years to become one of the most influential schools of missiology in the world. In his role as dean, McGavran’s understanding
